Data Interpretation

The Euclid Consortium Science Working Groups (EC SWG) shares with the EC SGS the responsibility of the scientific production and delivery of Euclid data releases, and their scientific analysis and interpretation. 

SWG Organisation

The scientists of the Service d'Astrophysique are deeply involved in the following Working Group:

Weak Lensing SWG:

  • WP Estimators (lead M. Kilbinger) The purpose of this WP is to define weak-lensing estimators for observables to be used for science. For example, the shear two-point correlation function, the shear power spectrum and bispectrum. It will also set requirements and validation tests for these estimators, and provide the link to OULE3.
  • WP Mass Mapping (lead S. Pires): The purpose of this WP is to find the science applications of mass mapping for Euclid to show the scientific interest in doing mass mapping. Even though, the mass map is an ESA product, there is no guarantee that this mass map will enable these studies. Thus any particular requirements that this science will require has to be passed to OULE3.

Clusters of Galaxies SWG (members: M. Arnaud, M. Kilbinger, M. Pierre)

Cosmological Theory SWG (members: M. Kilbinger, R. Lehoucq, A. Rassat)

Galaxy Clustering SWG: 

  • WP Survey Mask (member: S.Pires): This work package will define how the survey selection function will be characterised for Euclid galaxy clustering measurements including both spectroscopic and photometric galaxy catalogues. It is in close interaction with Internal Data Implementation WP in OU-LE3 to develop the methodologies.
  • WP Probe Combination (member: A. Rassat) : This work package will combined the galaxy field with different probes.

CMB Cross Correlation SWG (members: A. Rassat, J-L. Starck)

Legacy GAL & AGN Evolution SWG:

  • WP Galaxy morphology (lead P.-A. Duc) : This WP is in charge of specifying algorithms needed for galaxy morphology classification and analysis with Euclid data and organizing  the relevant science (link between morphology and galaxy evolution)
  • WP Multi-wavelength synergies (lead H. Aussel) This WP should deal both with ... and electromagnetic spectrum. It should provide scientific guidance on... science optimized multi-wavelength analysis methods and act as... (TBC)
  • WP Active Galactic Nuclei (lead S. Juneau) : This WP should identify Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) among galaxies using both ancillary multi-wavelength observations and Euclid internal observations. This is important for both primary science (to remove possible biases introduced by some AGNs) and for legacy science. Regarding the latter, scientific aims include the measurement of physical properties of AGNs (luminosity, accretion rate, obscuration, etc.), compute their distribution functions, and relate these properties to that of their host galaxies.
  • WP High-z objects (lead E. Daddi) : This WP is in charge to do galaxy evolution science with sources having roughly 3<z<7, i.e. too low-z to display a Lyman break (which otherwise go in the appropriate high-z WG) and too high-z to have breaks in the IR filters. The main difficulty being to identify these objects.
